They grow so fast!

The kids are growing fast!

Boomer is very curious about the garden just now but thankfully she only likes to be outside if we are there or Yu You is with her. I had to kill a wasp the pair of them were investigating before it stung one if them on Saturday! Daniel says I should just leave them to find out for themselves to leave yellow and black flying things alone but he's not the one Yu You goes in a huff with when she gets stung!!

Yu You is still the street's puppy pin up but I had a disturbing experience yesterday when one boy told me his mum said he wasn't allowed in my house. I asked why incase it was because of the pets had scratched or bitten him but his reply was quite unexpected. He is not allowed in my house because I am Chinese. :| :| :| Not amused. Must move.

Pet Sitting

Before we got Boomer I booked ticked to see a couple of comedy shows (Jeff Green & Bill Bailey for those who want to know) at the Edinburgh Fringe. My friend R had already agreed to dog sit for us. I assumed that she would be ok to look after Boomer at the same time but unfortunately for us I didn’t realise exactly how much she hated cats!

She had in the past said that she thought “Cats are evil” but I wasn’t ready for her backing away from a tiny kitten when she visited prior to the date! It transpired that she couldn’t physically stand to be in the same room as a cat for any length of time and had thought it would perhaps be ok to put Boomer in a different room and then at almost the last minute requested to take Yu You to her flat rather than be in the house with Boomer. Not ok. (o_o) **

After some panic I decided to ask my next door neighbours if they might mind Boomer for the night as their daughters had previously visited and seemed to enjoy playing with her. Thankfully they said yes! b(~_^)b

The following morning we went to collect Boomer hoping it all went well to find Boomer quite happy with the adoring attention of this family! They had completely fallen for her charms and actually took photos of her during the night they thought she was so cute! I believe they may be considering one for themselves now. m <(~_~)> m

Finally we managed to drag Boomer away from them and re-united the terrible twosome. But for some reason Boomer didn’t want to play with Yu You! fO_o and although she was getting lots of attention from Daniel and myself Yu You sat on my lap and whined sadly until we persuaded Boomer to give her a few licks on the face. So odd!!

Anyway the two (“\(.:…:.)/”) ‘s are back in form and chasing each other around again. Chewing my slippers and cardigans.

New Kid on the Block

I have to have a rant. **Skip to bottom if you just want to find out how the kids are.

As I have written before, the kids in the street come to visit Yu You sometimes. Initially they tried to visit during working hours but after we said no a couple of times they stopped. However, there is a new girl now. Little blonde girl with a little blonde name and generally dressed in pink.

She first came to our door on Monday with Hannah and Beth from next door and it was just after dinner so we let them in to play with Boomer and Yu You. I knew I didn't like her when she started talking and just wouldn't stop! "Animals like me, a cat bited (she said it like this) me, why does she do that, i haven't seen big oranges before". I described it to Daniel as Vicky Pollard without swearing. Verbal diarrhea.

Yesterday she came over twice - I only let her in once when she was with Beth and it was nearly lunchtime anyway. She puts me on edge as she doesn't listen when I say that Boomer doesn't want to be picked up or don't hold Yu You like that. She just continues to tell me how "Animal like me". Gah!!

Today she came round twice by herself but both times I told her no as I was busy. She whined a bit about how she was going away Saturday but I became the wicked with of the East (Kilbride) and refused still. Pink doesn't sway me! Hah!

It also concerns me that if something happens to this little girl in my house e.e. she trips over or a pet bites her, then I'd be blamed despite not inviting her over in the first place. My new rule is that if I don't know who their parents are I don't let them in by themselves!

I later came home from badminton to find she had brought her brother round when Daniel got in and did get to play with them after all. Daniel now shares my dislike. I can't wait for term to start!

**Boomer is surprisingly sociable with kids who come to play with her. She doesn't just hide under the sofa much to Yu You's disappointment! She's not used to sharing the limelight!

Boomer was very well behaved when she was held by Hannah and Beth. I tried not to let the pink girl hold her but eventually had to just to shut her up. Sorry, I know I said I wouldn't rant here but it just demonstrates how patient Boomer is not to have "bited" her!!

Lots of Ouch!

It's been a tough few days for Yu You recently. Saturday was V-Day and she had to get her last set of jabs. Ouch! Lots of whining and pitiful looks. I had to cover her eyes while the vet was performing the dastardly deed as I didn't want to see her sad eyes!

She was feeling very sorry for herself all day Saturday. Refused to play with Boomer and milked it for all it was worth. For some strange doggy reason she also decided that I must have been to blame for the pain and went in a huff with me for a while but not with Daniel even though we both went to the vet with her!! When Daniel bent down he got a wag of the tail and a lick. When I bent down I got a turned head. In fact, if I sat down next to her on the sofa she would get up with a sigh and walk to the other end and lie back down again grumpily with lots of huffs! Spoilt madam! She "forgave" me eventually though.

On Sunday we drove to visit Daniel's mum and her dog Jake. This is the first dog she has seen since leaving the breeder so it was a relief that she wasn't scared at all. Jake is the most mild mannered dog I know but unfortunately didn't really understand why there was a fluff ball trying to sniff him and getting attention from his family! He spent all the time watching her and backing away when Yu You tried to sniff him! Yu You seemed to have fun visiting a new house and didn't embarrass me - thank goodness!

Today she discovered that standing on stingy things like wasps is not a good idea! At lunch time she suddenly yelped and raced towards me whining in pain. I picked her up bit couldn't figure out what was wrong and thought she'd maybe stepped on a sharp twig and she was holding her right back paw funny. It wasn't til I saw a wasp still flying around her that I realised what had happened. She must have accidently stepped on it when she was playing on the grass!

Lots of cuddles and kisses again for her but again she decided that *I* must have had something to do with her pain so again she went in a huff with me! I think it must be because I am always around when something happens and she can't blame the pack leader (Daniel) as he is the pack leader and we wouldn't want to upset him...

So, she felt sorry for herself and limped and whined her way around my office trying to get comfy. Half an hour later my friend Roslin came to say hi and lo and behold Yu You makes a miraculous recovery and rushes to greet her with no whining at all!! But she still stays in a huff with me and only wags her tail at Roslin!

She's better now though after a long sleep and some cheese.

This is a photo of her staring down the stairs after Boomer. Yu You is still too small to try them yet and Boomer takes full advantage of this by sitting on the next step down just out of reach and batting her nose with her paw! It reminds me of Garfield and Odie. One day Boomer is going to kick Yu You off a table I think!

New Arrival

So the agreement was that if I got a puppy, Daniel would get a kitten and we’d bring them up together. The kitten arrived on Saturday. Boomer is a female Siamese crossed Bengal. More Siamese than Bengal but she still has lovely markings.

When we went to the cattery to choose a kitten it was the first time I’d seen a real life Siamese cat but they are so thin and lithe! The pure Siamese that was there was definitely a feline supermodel! It carefully surveyed the floor before moving a paw and walked in a very careful and precise manner, placing each paw just so. I am not sure if Boomer has inherited this yet as she runs everywhere! Last night she decided that 9:30pm was a great time to do laps behind my sofa. Just when I was trying to get Yu You to settle down and sleep all we could hear was “tat tat tat tat tat tat”, scuffle (this is her turning), “tat tat tat tat tat tat”! Eventually Yu You ended up getting worked up and energetic again! Sigh!!

On Saturday night, Boomer was scared of everyone! She would hide and shake. Poor thing. She was a bit better on Sunday having spent the day mainly with only Daniel. Monday during the day we thought it might be easier to keep her and Yu You apart while I was working so she had to stay in Daniel’s office. But that night – laps, climbing up sofas, knocking down ornaments, chewing on cables and trying to run out of kitchen door after Yu You! I don’t think she’s shy at all! She was just having us on!

Yu You seems to regard her as a new toy to play with her and chases her around the room only when she isn’t distracted by other toys or food. Boomer seems to like watching Yu You and peeks out at her when she isn’t looking! I think one day Yu You is going to have a scratched nose which worries me but I guess it’s needed if she’s going to learn that hissing is not a good sign!

The thing about Boomer that makes me laugh is when she wakes up she has to stretch for about 5 minutes. Not normal, arch back and shake stretches but real Olympic athlete stretches! One leg at a time and sometimes using me as a base to hold onto (with claws!) while she stretches each hind leg!! I may need to invest in thicker jeans!
